Plans to build a new federal administrative building for the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management south of Indian Hills will be unveiled 6 p.m. Thursday.

The two agencies are proposing a new building on a 20-acre site located west of Highway 395 between Harris and Hobo Hot Springs roads to house seasonal workforce and provide employee workspace and fleet parking.

“Currently, the BLM and forest service do not have sufficient housing to offer our seasonal employees,” said Carson District Ranger Genny Wilson. “These employees are critical in meeting our agency missions of fighting fire and managing the public lands in western Nevada.”

There will also be space for fleet parking, office and work space. Public services for the forest service and BLM will remain at their Carson City offices.

Wilson encouraged residents to attend the meeting and offer comments to the forest service, the lead agency for the project. Written comments will be accepted until Jan. 11, 2010.

Comments should be submitted to Genny Wilson, Carson District Ranger, 1536 Carson Street, Carson City, Nevada 89701 or faxed to 884-8199. The office business hours for submitting comments in person are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Electronic comments should be sent to comments-intermtn-humboldt-toiyabe@fs.fed.us
