A graveside service is 10 a.m. Saturday at Fredericksburg Cemetery for Markleeville resident Barbara Hensleigh Zellmer, 72, who died in Reno on Nov. 28, 2009, after fighting a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. A memorial service will follow the funeral at 1:30 p.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church in Gardnerville.

Born Nov. 12, 1937, in Alamosa, Colo., to John Clyde and Fernola Bonnie Hensleigh, she grew up in Southern California and attended Los Angeles Pacific College, graduating with a bachelors degree in elementary education in 1962.

On Aug. 31, 1957, she married Herman Franklin Zellmer. Her passion was for teaching young children. She worked as an elementary school teacher for 32 years in the Los Angeles City and Hacienda La Puente unified school districts, teaching in the middle elementary grades.

She retired with her husband to Markleeville. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church. She expressed her faith by sharing her musical talents both as a vocalist and accompanist in the churches she attended.

Mrs. Zellmer is survived by her husband; sisters, Linda (Don) Lewis and Judy Hensleigh; sons Craig (Nadine), Scott (Robyn) and Mark (Natalie); and grandchildren Christopher, Breanne, Courtney, Jenna, Aaron, Ariele, Lauren and Ashleigh.
