A Gardnerville Ranchos man was ordered to pay off $1,254 in medical bills by Jan. 11 to the family of a 6-year-old girl mauled by the suspect's Rottweiler.
Justin Robert Taylor made a $200 payment Friday in East Fork Justice Court for the woman whom he described as “money hungry” in a letter to Judge Jim EnEarl.
He claimed the little girl's mother shared responsibility for the July 3 attack at Topaz Lake Park because she wasn't paying attention to the little girl.
Witnesses said the victim approached the dog which was tied to a tree with a rope.
The child received nine staples in the back of her head, five stitches in her lip and four stitches near an eye. She was treated at Carson Valley Medical Center.
The payment reimburses the family for what their insurance company did not cover in the $4,000 medical bill.
“The woman didn't do anything to protect her daughter,” Taylor said. “She has as much a part to play as I do.”
Taylor said he was strapped for funds, but EnEarl ordered the payment made by Jan. 11.
