A private family memorial service was held for native Nevadan and longtime Gardnerville resident Carol Jean McGill Fowler, 66, who died unexpectedly Oct. 22, 2009.

Born in Las Vegas on Nov. 19, 1942, to John Cleveland McGill and Mary Lois Piersol McGill, she was the oldest of five children.

She would regularly share news of her family and looked forward to her daughter Tracey receiving her registered nursing degree next year.

Mrs. Fowler was an avid reader, who enjoyed embroidery and crocheting afghans for family members. She was known for her love of flower gardening, particularly geraniums and roses.

She is preceded in death by her parents and grandmother, Grace Gertrude Hale Piersol.

She is survived by husband John S. Fowler of Gardnerville; children K.C. (Jereen) Fowler of Visalia, Calif., Johnna (Mike) Wright of Carson City, Dawn (John) Rootness of Greenfield, Minn., Tracey (Randy) Hamann of Gardnerville; 12 grandchildren; one great grandchild; siblings Bob McGill, Connie Fergus, John McGill and Vernon McGill; multiple nieces and nephews and her chihuahua William ‘Willie' Shakespeare.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Douglas County Animal Shelter, PO Box 218, Minden, 89423.
