Carson Valley's first snow was a doozy with 2-4 inches of the white stuff falling thanks to moisture provided by Lake Tahoe. The National Weather Service issued a lake effect snow advisory at 4:09 a.m. warning that a band of snow was stretching from the southeast portion of Lake Tahoe would continue to produce light to moderate snow between Gardnerville and Carson City until about 11 a.m.
The highest accumulation of snow is expected near and west of Minden, and would cause some trouble for motorists on Highway 395 between Carson and Holbrook Junction.
Chains or snow tires are being required over Kingsbury Grade and Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe. Four-wheel drive or snow tires are being required on Highway 88 over Carson Pass.
Douglas County Sheriff's deputies reported an estimated 4 inches of snow in Stateline. About 2 inches of snow were estimated in Gardnerville on grassy surfaces, but nothing was sticking to the roads at 3:50 a.m.
