Fire investigation

The Tahoe Daily Tribune is reporting that the half-acre fire Tuesday in Stateline apparently started in a homeless camp. The Nevada Fire Marshal's Office has received tips about the fire, which began just as winds in Stateline were gusting above 45 mph. The area below Heavenly has been the scene of several fires over the past few years.

Chains on Mount Rose highway

The first road controls of the season popped up today on Mount Rose, where chains or snow tires are required. Otherwise the roads are clear. Construction is continuing on the shoulder of Kingsbury, which is routing traffic into the opposing lane and causing 20 minute delays. At least when winter comes, road work will be over.

Unattended death investigation

Douglas County authorities were investigating an unattended death on Douglas Avenue at about 5 p.m. Tuesday. So far, we've received no indication that criminal activity is involved. If that changes, we'll post as soon as we know.

High wind gust was 60 mph

The high wind gust for Carson Valley was 60 mph, according to the Meneley Elementary School weather station. A National Weather Service spotter recorded a gust of 55 mph in Gardnerville. The winds knocked down branches, and two of the portable toilets waiting to be picked up in Genoa.

It's chilly out this morning

The temperature this morning is 31 degrees in Minden, 34 degrees in the Gardnerville Ranchos and 35 degrees in Genoa. It's cold out there now, but it will be colder on Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Today's high temperature will struggle to hit 60 degrees. The low tonight will drop down to 26 degrees. We'll see some warming through Saturday and then drop back down again on Sunday, when we might see some moisture.
