Indian Hills trustee pick goes to county

It was old home week at the Indian Hills General Improvement District on Monday night with three former board members and one person who sought the manager’s job seeking the vacant seat on the district board.

Then it was four up and four down when it came time for trustees to chose a new comrade, as all four were rejected.

Art Baer, Ron Kruse, Chuck Swanson and Bill Moriarty turned in applications to replace former board member Bill Eisele.

Kruse, who served as chairman of the board, was the senior member of the panel, having served on the board for 10 years between 1994 and 2004. He said the state term limits law would not apply to him because he had been off the board for four years.

Another former chairman, Swanson served on the board for six years between 2000 and 2006.

Baer served on the board for four years and was interim district manager last summer.

Chairwoman Dianne Humble said that and the fact that Baer ran for office in the last election was the reason she nominated him for the position. Vice chairwoman Denise Pierini seconded the appointment, but board members Laura Lau and Brian Patrick voted against him.

Similar votes awaited Kruse, Moriarty and Swanson, each failing to gain a majority.

It will now be up to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners to fill the spot.
