JUNIOR VARSITY

The Douglas junior varsity girls’ soccer team took a hard-fought 2-0 win over Galena last week.

The teams fought to a scoreless tie through the first half but Douglas’ Nicole Duster dropped a nice pass back to the 18-yard line where Jessica Vega was waiting with a big boot to score in the 68th minute.

The midfield remained solid with Becca Nueffer, Shannon Prinz, Cara Dunkelman, Amanda Ferraro, and April Sorenson fighting the battle of possession. The Tiger offense managed 25 shots in the game and in the final three minutes, Jillian Olivera connected with the final goal of the game.

Galena continued to pressure the defense but Erica Macias, Marissa Menicucci, Sarah Owens, Jill Brune and Cami Arrend shut them down.

Arrend had 10 saves, including one that was popped up to the top bar and back down to her.

Douglas beat Damonte Ranch 5-0 on Tuesday as Holly Downer scored twice and Shannon Prinz, Kelsey Martinez and Jennifer Gorton each had one goal.
