Last big Candy Dance meeting

The last meeting of the Genoa Town Board before Candy Dance is 7 p.m. today and there may be trouble brewing over the town’s decision to work with independent craft fairs. Town Historian Billie Jean Rightmire has posted a document in the Post Office pointing out that volunteers are the base for Candy Dance and lamenting efforts by business owners to operate their own fairs. Up for discussion and possible action at today’s meeting is discussion and possible action of bringing all the events under one festival permit for the 2009 Candy Dance. Genoans meet in the town hall.

Gardnerville talks about bumps

It’s all about the streets as Gardnerville Town Board members meet 4:30 p.m. today. Townspeople are seeking speed bumps in Stodick Estates and on Apollo Avenue. The town board will also hear an overview of traffic calming and discuss improving Muller Parkway from Stodick Parkway to the end using road grindings.

Work begins on 50 Wednesday

Construction is scheduled to start again on Highway 50 between Stateline and Spooner Summit 6 a.m. Wednesday. Expect 30-minute delays between Wednesday and Friday, no passing and single lanes.

September snap in the air

It’s going to be a chilly morning. Minden’s down to 37 degrees this morning, according to the county’s Web site and Fish Springs is showing 44 degrees at 3:33 a.m. Expect the lows to keep dropping until sunrise at 6:29 a.m.
