Staff Reports
The end of summer cant be too far away when the concerts in Minden Park end for the season.
The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Departments 12th annual Summer Family Concert Series in Minden Park concludes with the Michael Powers Group, 6-8 p.m. today.
Residents have enjoyed the free concerts since Alice Stuart & the Formerlys kicked off the series May 30. Other concerts featured this summer were the Batdorf & Rodney Reunion, Comstock Cowboys and the Surf All-Stars.
Todays show is the Seattle-based Michael Powers Group, which is Powers on guitar, Dave Austin on drums and Eddy Ferguson on bass. Powers describes what he plays as contemporary instrumental music: rooted in jazz, with pop and R&B styles and inspired by the blues. His music features guitar as a solo voice and is influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Charlie Parker, George Benson, Miles Davis and Kevin Eubanks.
Food and nonalcoholic beverages will be sold by the Minden-Douglas Elks Lodge No. 2670 with proceeds to be used for community projects. For information about becoming a sponsor for next years concert in the park series, call Sheryl Christian at Douglas County Parks & Recreation Division, 782-9828.
