A Mammoth, Calif., man was jailed on $28,792 bail early Friday, suspected of being a paper bag-wearing bandit who took a small amount of money from the Minden AM-PM mini-market.

Christopher Matthew Hamilton, 43, a self-employed carpenter, was booked on charges of robbery, possession of burglary tools and minor traffic offenses.

According to Douglas County Sheriff’s Capt. Keith Logan, a man entered the convenience store at 2:13 a.m., demanding money and carrying an edged weapon.

Witnesses said he was wearing a loose paper bag to conceal his identity.

He fled with a small amount of money.

Logan said there were no injuries to employees or customers.

Minutes later, employees at the nearby Carson Valley Inn reported a suspicious-looking male leaving the casino.

Douglas County Deputy George Schramm saw the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic enforcement stop. He detained Hamilton, the sole occupant of the truck.

The convenience store clerk identified Hamilton and deputies recovered currency in the vehicle similar to what was taken during the robbery and other pieces of evidence.
