A 75,000-square-foot site on the northeast corner of Monte Vista and Ironwood Drive has been selected as the site for the new Minden Post Office.
In a May 22 letter to the Minden Town Board, Postal Service Real Estate Specialist Garry Mattox said the town had until June 22 to appeal the location.
“After reviewing other sites, the Postal Service has decided to select a 75,000-square-foot site located at 1709 Monte Vista Ave. We believe this new site will provide the community with an upgraded, modern facility that offers a safe working environment for our employees and a level of service expected by our customers,” Mattox said.

The Postal Service looked at sites on County Road, the Minden Gateway Center and the southwest corner of Muller Parkway at Monte Vista Avenue for the new site.
The Postal Service announced earlier this year that the current facility at Ninth Street and Highway 395 was too small at 4,400 square feet.
Plans call for an 8,020-square-foot building on a 74,883-square-foot site to be completed by March 2010.
According to the Douglas County Assessor’s Office, the 1.7-acre property is owned by Duane U. Deverill charitable trust of Incline Village and is valued at $3.6 million.
