Carson Valley Days on the way

Preparations are under way for one of Carson Valley’s oldest and biggest parties of the year.

Minden and Gardnerville will celebrate 98 years of Carson Valley Days on June 12-15. Founded by H.F. Dangberg Jr. in 1910, the event features a parade from Minden to Lampe parks, a hot-air balloon launch, carnival and the Carson Valley Days Walk, Jog, Run.

With buttons on sale and a theme set, the dozen members of the Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club are gearing up for the annual event.

Buttons are sold by Soroptimists and feature a pastoral scene.

“Keep Nevada Open” is the theme of this year’s parade, according to Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club treasurer Jeremy Davidson.

“The main idea is to keep public lands open to recreation and keeping trails open,” he said. “The club members like to go out on quads and go camping.”

Members of the club are hoping that parade entrants pick up the theme for their floats.

Among the ideas for floats would be outdoors activities including off-road vehicles, horseback riding, boating and kayaking.

Club members are also seeking sponsors and craft vendors for Carson Valley Days. Sponsorship information and applications for parade entries and craft vendors are available at the club’s Web site, www.carsonvalley2030.org. Information, Pat Kincheloe, 291-4233.

Sponsorships and donations for raffle prizes are needed. Sponsorships can range from $200 to $5,000 and go toward logos on T-shirts, banners or carnival tickets.

Proceeds from this fundraiser go to the many local and community service projects sponsored by Soroptimist International of Carson Valley.

Buttons are available at 88 Cups, Ace Hardware, AG Edwards/Wachovia, Artisans International Gallery, Carson River Community Bank in Minden, Carson Valley Market, Café Girasole, Carson Valley Inn Gift Shop, Changes hair salon, City National Bank, The French Bar, Historian Inn, JT Basque Bar & Dining Room, Jen’s Optical House, Jethro’s, Laxague Feed and Supply, Nevada State Bank in Minden, Raley’s, Scolari’s, Sierra Nevada Trading Co., Two Guys from Italy, Wells Fargo Bank and World Gym.

Buttons may be purchased from any Soroptimist member. Information, Arlene Gleich, 782-2215, or Jano Kelly, 782-8126.
