The R-C Morning Report

So far, no countywide primary
Our only countywide primary to date evaporated on Wednesday when Dianne Humble-Fournier switched her filing from School Board Area A to Indian Hills General Improvement District. Both she and former improvement district board member Art Baer are seeking seats on the board.

Floodplain ordinance
About 40 people attended a floodplain ordinance workshop in Minden on Wednesday afternoon. A portion of the county’s floodplain ordinance was struck down in federal court and approval of the rewrite is on a steep slope to approval.

Settlement conference
Today, Douglas County commissioners meet in Stateline, where they’ll discuss selecting a representative for a settlement conference in Scotsman v. Douglas County, which is the lawsuit that took out the floodplain ordinance. Also up today is the fire sprinkler ordinance for new and existing buildings.

Heat builds up on Friday
Have I mentioned it’s going to be warm this weekend? Temperatures in the valleys of Western Nevada are expected to be 20 degrees above normal Friday through Monday with record highs. Out east near Lovelock, Fallon and Dixie Valley, the temperatures may crack 100. By Tuesday, temperatures are predicted to drop 12 degrees.
Today will be sunny with a high near 84. The wind will pick up in the afternoon with gusts of 20 mph.
