Lindley, O'Keefe play CVIC Hall

Carson Valley Arts Council presents multi-instrumentalist David Lindley in concert with Danny O'Keefe, 7 p.m. tonight at the CVIC Hall, 1604 Esmeralda Ave., Minden. A reception with wine, beer, soft drinks and hors d'oeuvres begins at 6 p.m. Desserts served after the concert. Admission is a $15 donation at the door. All proceeds benefit Carson Valley Arts Council.

Lindley was featured accompanist with Jackson Brown, led his own band El Rayo-X and has championed the concept of world music. In his electro-acoustic performance he combines American folk, blues, and bluegrass traditions with elements from African, Arabic, Asian, Celtic, Malagasy and Turkish musical sources. Lindley incorporates a wide array of stringed instruments including Kona and Weissenborn Hawaiian lap steel guitar, Turkish saz and chumbus, Middle Eastern oud and Irish bouzouki.

Growing up in Southern California, Lindley took up the banjo as a teenager and was a five-time winner of the annual Topanga Canyon Banjo and Fiddle Contest. In 1979 he began working with Ry Cooder in a musical collaboration resulting several recording projects and world tours.
