Thomasson graduates from Marine basic training

Pfc. Matthew W. Thomasson recently graduated from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, Calif.
Thomasson earned an extended leave, where he engaged in Marine recruiting assistance in Carson City.
Thomasson graduated from Douglas High School in 2006. After a year at Western Nevada College, he enlisted in the Marine Corps.
He is presently undergoing Marine combat training at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He will be trained as a combat engineer/heavy equipment operator at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, then attached to a reserve unit in Lathrop, Calif.
Pfc. Thomasson is the son of Phil Thomasson and Patti Shoemaker, both of Gardnerville.
Coats completes Navy basic training
Navy Seaman Apprentice David B. Coats, son of Carol A. Coats and David H. Wasick, both of Minden recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. with honors.
During the eight-week program, Coats completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
Coats is a 2006 graduate of Douglas High School.
