Mexican home cooking comes to Ranchos

The owners of El Rancho hope their Mexican restaurant doesn't continue to be the best kept secret in the Gardnerville Ranchos.

El Rancho opened in August but the Victor and Conception Mora have had the Plaza Tapatia restaurant at South Lake Tahoe for seven years.

"We were looking for a good place to open another business and there wasn't any Mexican food in the Ranchos," said Conception Mora.

She said all the cooking is done by Abraham Gomez and her husband, Victor.

"All the food is homemade and it's not expensive," Conception Mora said. "A lot of people say they like it. It's very good food."

The chile rellenos are from an original Mexican recipe, the salsa is made in house and breakfasts of huevos rancheros, or huevos con chorizo or with ham may be requested any time.

El Ranchos' menu includes carnitas, carne asada, tortas of spicy pork, fried pork or grilled beef, tacos, burritos, fajitas, appetizers in a variety of meat, chicken, seafood and vegetable combinations.

El Rancho is next to Silver Strike Lanes in the Gardnerville Ranchos at 1281 Kimmerling Road.
