Print Comment

The Carson Valley Art Association's scholarship winners have been announced. From Douglas High School the winners are Niles Randall Crow and Lisa Shoemaker. From Whittell High School, winners are Sarah Angstadt and Sebastian Diaz.

Crow received the Elizabeth Johnson Scholarship for $1,000. He qualifies for the Millennium scholarship and plans on attending Western Nevada Community College for two years, then transferring to the University of Nevada, Reno. He has received the gold, silver and honorable mention awards at the Scholastic Art Awards in Reno.

He is hoping to get a art teaching degree and is also interested in the nursing field.

Angstadt also received a CVAA scholarship for $1,000. Her main interest is in computer art, and over the years she has acquired digital imaging skills though learning Photoshop on her own and at her father's company, Integrated Telcom Services, where she has become the computer expert. Her plans are to attend UNR, and to improve and enhance her skills as time goes on. She is also interested in the medical profession.

Shoemaker received a CVAA scholarship for $500. She won second place in the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest two years in a row, and hopes to take a first place this year.

She plans on combining her interests in art and psychology and majoring in art therapy at Truckee Meadows Community College.

Diaz also received a CVAA scholarship for $500. Diaz plans on taking his interest in photography to a higher level through his studies at UNR.

He has earned honorable mentions in contests and has successfully photographed one wedding. He hopes to learn to develop his own film and further explore his talents.
