New parenting educators add services at Douglas County Family Support Council

The Family Support Council of Douglas County recently added two parenting educators in the Parents And Children Together Program.

Teri Clark is a long-time resident of Douglas County and has spent the past 20-plus years working with both Douglas County School District and Carson City School District in mainstream and special needs classrooms. Clark will be teaching parenting classes for FSC as well as working with families one-on-one to discuss family and parenting issues.

Bonnie Morgan moved to Gardnerville to be closer to her son and his family. Most recently, Morgan worked with the Nevada Women, Infants and Children Program as a registered dietitian and health program specialist. Morgan will be using her education and experience in nutrition and early childhood to assist pregnant and new moms in FSC's Healthy Beginnings and Family-to-Family programs.

FSC's next set of parenting classes: Parenting Young Children, Effective Parenting and Surviving Your Teen will be starting again in January, after the holidays. FSC will also have a new self-paced software program, "Parenting Wisely", which will be available in January. Meanwhile, anyone with questions or issues is welcome to call and set up a one-on-one appointment with a parent educator.

Family-to-Family classes for parents of children ages infant to 4 are on-going. Both moms and dads can join Morgan for Baby Massage, CPR for Children, Making Your Own Baby Food, Toddler Time and other topics. She can also offer moms information about breastfeeding and nutrition for their young children.

The Family Support Council offers all classes and programs to the public free of charge, regardless of gender, income or religion. Babysitting is also provided during parenting classes, free of charge.

Jen Forzani continues to work with FSC as a parent educator and will be teaching evening parenting classes. Clark, Morgan or Forzani are available to answer questions about parenting or about upcoming events and class schedules.

The Family Support Council is located at 1255 Waterloo Lane, Suite A, Gardnerville, 782-8692.
