Shoppers at Scolari's in Gardnerville may take home purchases after 4 p.m. today in grocery bags decorated by 375 Minden Elementary students to celebrate Earth Day.

The bags were donated by Scolari's and Trader Joe's in Reno.

Teacher Tamar McKeon said students brain-stormed environmental messages to share with the public and decorated the bags with slogans and drawings.

Students from kindergarten through sixth grade participated.

"It is the students' hope that these bags will be reused and that everyone will remember that every day should be Earth Day," McKeon said.
