A 23-year-old Gardnerville man was jailed March 12 on $26,591 bail after he allegedly hit a man with a baseball bat and punched a pregnant woman in the stomach.
Jose de Jesus Cedeno-Castillo also was charged with driving under the influence with one prior and driving without a valid driver's license.
Deputies said they were called to Latino Azteca about 6 p.m. after the suspect left the market. Witnesses said he and another man walked into the store, started a conversation with the 24-year-old victim and Castillo struck him in the ribs on the left side with the bat. The victim said he punched Castillo in the face in an attempt to defend himself.
A 22-year-old woman who was five months pregnant said Castillo pushed her as she tried to intervene, took a swing at the male, missed and punched her on the left side of her stomach. She and the male victim were evaluated by paramedics and refused treatment.
Castillo is set to appear in East Fork Justice Court today.
-- A 53-year-old man who refused to leave Genoa Bar on March 12 is in Douglas County Jail on $10,000 bail charged with trespassing and obstructing an officer.
Deputies said the bar's owners called about 6 p.m. to report that Torke Patrick Carver refused to leave and was verbally abusive to customers.
When a deputy questioned Carver outside the bar he said the suspect became more agitated when told he would have to leave or face a trespassing charge.
He said Carver ran back in the building, down the length of bar, knocking into patrons and furniture, and grabbed the edge of the bar. The deputy drew his Taser, but Carver fell on his back on the floor. Deputies rolled him on his stomach and handcuffed him.
Carver complained that his back was hurt, but he was cleared of injury at Carson Valley Medical Center.
-- Christy Menton, 44, of Carson City, is in Douglas County Jail on $25,500 bail accused of taking $588 in items from Wal-Mart without paying and threatening a store security official.
Menton was arrested March 14 on charges of burglary and theft. Deputies said she and an unidentified man were observed pushing two shopping carts through the store and collecting items. The man left his cart near the customer service counter and exited the store. Menton was observed exchanging items between the two carts, placing a tan coat over her basket and leaving the store without paying.
When she was stopped by a security guard she threatened him that her male friend would attack him. At first, she refused to give authorities her name and address.
