County planners give tentative OK to Gardnerville casino

Despite concerns about a shortage of affordable housing in Carson Valley and the hotel-casino's European villa design, Douglas County planning officials are recommending approval Tuesday of a 187-acre hotel and casino south of Gardnerville.The Douglas County Planning Commission will consider approving a zoning change to allow a commercial gaming district overlay, as the designation is termed by planners.The proposed casino is located on the former Matley Ranch at Pinenut Road and Highway 395, just south of Gardnerville.The casino plan was originally announced in September.In a report to planning commissioners, planning officials stated concerns regarding the scarce amount of vacant housing …
