Charges are pending against a Sparks woman identified in a Greater Nevada Credit Union video as she allegedly cashed a stolen check.
Douglas County Sheriffs Investigator Ron Elges said Tuesday the woman was identified as Charity Rife, 32, believed to be from Sparks.
He said Rife, accused of cashing an altered check for $800 at the bank branch on Sept. 24, was in custody in Solano County, Calif. on several charges.
According to the Solano County, Calif., jail log, Rife was booked Oct. 28 on seven felonies and two misdemeanors in connection with burglary, forgery, identity theft and possession of stolen property.
Her bail was set at $60,000 with a no-bail fugitive from justice hold.
Douglas County authorities believe Rife stole the check, originally for $40, in Reno and cashed it in Minden.
The check was in a birthday card for the victims son.
I called her (the victim) to let her know the suspect had been apprehended. She was very happy, Elges said.
Elges said Rife was a suspect in similar offenses in Washoe County.
He said the Douglas County District Attorneys Office was preparing charges against Rife.
Elges said when Rifes photo was published he was flooded with calls from citizens who had information.
We want to thank the public and the Washoe County Sheriffs Office for all their help, he said.
